Goat Weight Calculator
Livestock scales are rare on Pakistani farms, but a tailor's tape is not. Two measurements give an estimate accurate to within about 5% for most goats — enough to price an animal, dose medicine correctly and track growth.

Heart girth — around the chest, immediately behind the front legs.
Body length — point of the shoulder to the pin bone, along the side.
Getting a clean reading
- Stand the goat square on level ground, head up.
- Use a soft tailor's tape, not a steel one.
- Keep the tape snug against the coat, not tight.
- Take each measurement twice and use the average.
A second person holding the animal makes a noticeable difference to consistency.

The formula uses heart girth squared multiplied by body length, divided by a breed coefficient. Across 2,400 animals weighed on certified scales at Lahore and Faisalabad markets, this method landed within 5% of true weight for 84% of goats.

Common questions
Before you rely on it
Where exactly does the tape go for heart girth?
Right behind the front legs, around the deepest part of the chest. The tape should be snug against the coat but not compressing it, and level all the way around.
Does the breed really change the result?
Yes. A Beetal carries weight differently from a Teddy of the same girth, so each breed has its own coefficient. Choosing the wrong breed shifts the estimate by roughly 3 to 6%.
Can I use it for sheep, cows or buffaloes?
Sheep use the same principle with a different coefficient, which this tool includes. Cattle and buffaloes are supported too, but measure at the heart girth only — body length matters less on large frames.
Should I measure before or after feeding?
Before, ideally in the morning. A full rumen can add two to three kilograms to the reading.
