Getting it right
Common feeding mistakes
Concentrate without fibre
More than 40% of intake as concentrate causes acidosis. Fodder must stay the base of the ration, not a garnish.
Sudden changes
Rumen microbes need seven to ten days to adapt. Introduce any new feed gradually or you lose a week of gain.
Water treated as free
A goat that drinks less eats less. Dirty or hot water is the quietest cause of poor growth on Pakistani farms.
Feeding the group, not the animal
Pregnant does, growing kids and dry does have different requirements. One trough for all of them means somebody is being shortchanged.

Before you rely on it
How much should a goat eat in total?
Around 3 to 4% of body weight in dry matter each day. For a 45 kg goat that is roughly 1.6 kg of dry matter, which becomes about 6 kg once you account for the water in green fodder.
Can I feed only green fodder?
For maintenance, yes. For fattening or late pregnancy, no — green fodder alone cannot supply enough energy and protein in the space available in the rumen.
