Qurbani Eligibility Checker
Every year animals are bought that turn out to be under age or physically ineligible, and the buyer discovers it on Eid morning. Eight checks, done in the market with the seller present, avoid that entirely.
Inspecting at the market
- Walk the animal ten metres and watch how it moves.
- Roll the lower lip down and count the permanent teeth.
- Check both ears and both eyes from the front, not the side.
- Run a hand along the spine and ribs for condition.
- Ask for the vaccination card and birth record.
Before Eid
- Deworm at least three weeks earlier
- Trim hooves so it walks comfortably
- Keep feed and water normal until the day
- Arrange transport and a butcher in advance
Animal
Age is the first gate. Teeth and a stated age should agree.
Physical soundness
Switch off anything the animal fails. Inspect with the seller present.

These conditions are drawn from the widely accepted rulings applied across Pakistan. Where a case is borderline — a partly healed injury, an unusual horn break — the correct step is to ask a local scholar rather than rely on any tool, including this one.

Common questions
Before you rely on it
Does a broken horn disqualify the animal?
A horn broken partway, or one that never grew, does not. A horn broken away from the root — where the bone core is damaged — does. Look at where the break sits, not how it looks.
What about a castrated animal?
Castration does not affect eligibility. Many prefer a castrated male because the meat is milder.
How much of the ear can be missing?
The commonly applied threshold is one third. A tag hole or a small notch is not an issue; a substantially cut ear is.
Can I rely only on this checker?
Treat it as a structured inspection list. It catches the common problems, but a scholar should decide anything genuinely borderline.
